This was a quote from Laura Mulvey in 1992. the bottom line of what miss Mulvey is saying that when we watch music video's if the main singer is not female the we see everything from a males point of view. However, going deeper into the quote and picking it off piece by piece in order to get the full understand Mulvey says ' In a world ordered by sexual imbalance' she is saying that in today's world there is an sexual imbalance thus meaning that one sex or gender has the upper hand and this tends to be the male. she then goes on to say "pleasure in looking has been split between active/male and passive/female. in most music video's men are the one's who are active, moving and women are seen as objects and nice things to look at for example Dizzie Rascle 'Holiday'. Then she goes on to say 'The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly.' Again what she is saying is that we always see the females from the males point of view and how the female is very attractive therefore giving us an fantasy.
However in saying all that the woman artist also show themselves as things to look at in order to get more men fans so there is a argument for both sides. In addition to this women are often dismembered as you only see there nice flat belly with a piercing, there bust, there bottom, and there thighs and u hardly see there whole body where as men are never dismembered as you see there whole upper body with all there muscles and abs showing.
